How To Grow Heartleaf Philodendron
Well howdy everyone. So I just received thisĀ  Heartleaf Philodendron plant from Amazon. It’s also called a Brasil Philodendron.Ā

How To Grow Heartleaf Philodendron

It’s an easy beginner plant. It doesn’t need high light and it’s easy to propagate too. I will be showing you how to grow a Heartleaf Philodendron and propagate it.

It came in a little 6-inch hanging pot. But this plant can actually get pretty big. I’ve heard it can get about 1-3 ft. wide and 3-13 ft. long.

You can train it to climb or you can train it in a hanging basket. I want one in a hanging basket. I also want to start a second plant and train the vine across my windows.

Here is where I got my plant.

Brasil Philodendron Heartleaf Hanging Plant

It’s Time for Some Hanging Baskets

Heartleaf Philodendron Hanging Basket

You know, I have a house full of plants, but I realized I really did not have any hanging plants at all.

So I decided to change that and I ordered a bunch of plants. I have a string of hearts that I just put up and I have this one now.

So I’m gonna be hanging plants throughout my apartment. But in this article, I’m gonna be taking care of this Heartleaf Philodendron.

I have a Boston fern coming and some fuchsias also. I just received this Heartleaf Philodendron so I’m gonna be growing it here and updating it in this article.

Right now it’s a little bit on the small side, but this plant grows fast. And since it is very easy to propagate I will be rooting cuttings in water.

You can just get a stem cutting with a couple of nodes and a leaf on it and put it in a glass of water, and it’ll root. So it’s easy to propagate as well as easy to grow.

I’m going to start a grow journal for this plant. And I’ll keep updating it.Ā

Propagating Heartleaf Philodendron in Water

If you’re looking to expand your Heartleaf Philodendron collection or just want to share the love with friends, propagating in water is the way to go. It’s super easy and kinda fun to watch those roots grow.

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

First things first, you’ll need a healthy Heartleaf Philodendron, a clean pair of scissors, and a glass or jar filled with water. Make sure the water is room temperature.Ā

Step 2: Choose Your Cutting

Find a healthy vine with a few nodes (those little bumps where leaves and roots grow) and make a cut just below one of these nodes. You want at least 3-4 inches of stem with a couple of leaves.

Step 3: Prep Your Cutting

Remove any leaves that would be submerged in the water to prevent rotting. You’ll want the nodes to be underwater since that’s where the new roots will sprout from.

Step 4: Into the Water

Place your cutting in the glass or jar of water, ensuring the nodes are fully submerged. Put the jar in a spot with bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can be too harsh and might fry your little cuttings.

Step 5: Wait and Watch

This is the exciting part! Change the water every few days to keep it fresh and oxygenated. In a couple of weeks, you should see roots starting to form. Once the roots are a few inches long, usually in about a month, your cutting is ready to be potted up.

Step 6: Potting Up

When your cutting has a nice set of roots, it’s time to plant it in soil. Use a well-draining potting mix like coco coir and perlite.

Plant it, and give it a good watering. Keep the soil moist but not soggy, and your new plant should take off in no time.

And there you have it! Propagating Heartleaf Philodendron in water is not only a breeze but also a great way to multiply your plant collection.

Plus, it’s a fantastic project for both beginner and seasoned plant parents alike. Happy propagating!

I will be back with updates soon. I hope everybody is well.Ā  Take good care of yourselves. Happy gardening. Don’t forget, keep it green. Alright, see y’all later. Bye bye.
